20/20 were a power pop band that released three albums between 1979 and 1983. The core members of the band, Steve Allen and Ron Flynt were originally from Tulsa, moving to Los Angeles after fellow Tulsa natives Phil Seymour and Dwight Twilley had met with some success. The band didn’t set the world on fire, although they fit nicely into the sounds of the day. Power Pop fans will love this band, for me it was all about the song Yellow Pills, the second track on their debut album. Like certain tracks on The Cars debut, this particular song had something vaguely sci-fi about it.
Although 20/20 never really made it into popular consciousness, they were part of a scene that had some memorable three minute pop songs that had you humming your way through the day with their addictive melodies and easy lyrics. Here’s some of the bands that had one or two hits only – or no hits:
