As today is International Workers Day it seems appropriate to post Patti Smith’s return to making music, People Have The Power from the 1988 album, Dream Of Life. Written by Patti Smith and husband Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith from the legendary MC5, this was Patti Smith’s first release for nine years – the album also featured Jay Dee Daugherty on drums and Richard Sohl on piano. Daugherty and Sohl played with Smith in the The Patti Smith Group on four landmark albums in the seventies – Horses 1975, Radio Ethiopia 1976, Easter 1978 and Wave 1979. Photography was by Robert Mapplethorpe – Smith’s book Just Kids released in 2010 was a memoir about their relationship.
