14/6/14 – Darryl Cotton – 4 September 1949 – 27 July 2012

Zoot Pink picIn a week where two important figures in Australian rock history (Doc Neeson and Jim Keays) have left us, I am reminded of the loss of Darryl Cotton, the lead singer in Zoot, another band from Adelaide. Zoot also boasted Rick Springfield on guitar and Beeb Birtles on bass. Birtles went on to form Little River Band, Springfield a succesful solo career and fame as an actor, drummer Rick Brewer went on to join another successful Australian band, The Ferrets.

Cotton died of liver cancer in 2012. This is his obituary from the Sydney Morning Herald:
