3/7/14 – The House Of Love – The Girl With The Loneliest Eyes – 1992

Video Of The Day

The House Of Love1992After yesterday’s post, one track by The House Of Love just didn’t seem like enough, especially with this song lurking in the background. Babe Rainbow was the third album by The House Of Love (not counting compilations) and featured one of their dreamiest moments in The Girl With The Loneliest Eyes. It also has some sweet guitar sounds and poignant one note phrases, chiming arpeggios and melodic echoey caverns full of insistent repeating ringing guitar induced melancholia.

At this point Terry Bickers had gone and new guitarist Simon Walker from Chris Groothuizen and Pete Evans’ other band My White Bedroom joined. (I think the picture is this incarnation of the band, please let me know if it isn’t). Also to be noted is that the producer was Warne Livesey, he produced Touched By Jesus, the first All About Eve album that I was involved with. He also worked with The The, Midnight Oil, Mark Hollis and Julian Cope amongst others.

It’s impossible to believe that THOL were not listening to The Church….. nice guy Warne, and the time we all met up at the studio was a huge deal in my life. Made so welcome by you all. Love&Peace, Ken

Hey Marty, that’s actually Terry Bickers behind Guy Chadwick in this picture. Wonderful song (from an otherwise rather mediocre album). Remember singing it in the Mont St Michel Abbaye, with that awe-inspiring sixty-second echo ?
