The archetypal sixties naive one-hit wonder song was actually really ‘an excerpt’ from an unfinished Rock Opera called A Teenage Opera written by producer Mark Wirtz. West was the singer from the great and forgotten Psychedelic band Tomorrow that also featured Steve Howe later of Yes and Twink who joined a later incarnation of The Pretty Things and an early version of Pink Fairies. After Tomorrow broke up Wirtz chose West to write the words and sing Excerpt From A Teenage Opera. It was simply a great tune and all over the radio in 1967 the song reached No.2 on the British charts. Perfect music for the 9 year old me in 1967.
