Robert Wyatt releases a new retrospective through Domino Records on November 17th called, Different Every Time – Ex Machina/Benign Dictatorships. The album is a fascinating look at his long and interesting career, including collaborations and solo work and is the perfect place to start for anyone curious to discover this incredible artist.
The link below is an In Deep article I wrote when some archive material from 1968 was uncovered and released last year, it includes videos and an overview of his career.

Here’s a song from his last album Comicopera 2007 reviewed by Mojo Magazine as “the long suffering wife’s lament”. The song is a duet with Brazilian singer Monica Vasconcelos and is written by Wyatt and his wife Alfreda Benge.
Here’s the lyrics:
It’s that look in your eyes
Telling me lies
So many promises broken
What can I do? What should do?
Try to love you just as you are
Cos I’m never going to change a thing about you
Never ever going to change a thing
(Try to love you) just as you are
Should I leave should I stay?
Should I call it a day?
There’s so much to say that’s unspoken
In your way of being true
All I can do; try to love you just as you are
Cos I’m never going to change a thing
No I’m never ever change a thing
(I try to love you) just as you are
It’s that look in your eyes
I know you despise me
For not being stronger
What can I do?
What should I do?
I’ll always loved you just as you are
And I’ve never tried to change a thing
Never tried to change a thing about you
(Always loved you)
Just as you are
Will you leave will you stay?
There may come a day
When I’m weak and I’m stupid no longer
In my way I’ve been true
I’ve lived just for you
And always loved you just as you are
I’ve never tried to change a thing
Never tried to change a thing about you
(Always loved you)
Just as you are
And this, a very strange rendition of Just As You Are by Orchestre National De Jazz featuring Arno (from the band TC Matic known as the Belgian Tom Waits) and Yael Naim (Israeli-French singer that sang New Soul used in the Apple ad for Macbook Air).
