There’s nothing quite so sad as a death just before Christmas, especially when it’s an iconic figure like Joe Cocker.
His most memorable moment came in 1969 with his blistering version of The Beatles’ With A Little Help From My Friends and his memorable performance of the song at the Woodstock Festival. His voice was absolutely unforgettable and original, his bodily gyrations equally striking. His version of She Came In Through The Bathroom Window also reinterpreted McCartney’s song to great effect. The Mad Dogs And Englishman double album is a must for any serious record collection.
Rest In Peace Joe, and thanks for not staying in Sheffield and becoming a gas fitter! The obituary from The Guardian is linked below. Condolences to family and friends.
