On Christmas Day scenes like this seem to lift you up, take you away, place you softly in a chair surrounded by snacks and have you disregard the mess of paper around the tree.
The music by legendary American composer Jerome Kern enables Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers to literally float through the air in this amazing clip from the 1936 film Swing Time. Rogers floating in high heels and Astaire seemingly defying gravity, inspires and reminds you of the outrageous talent of these great artists. Astaire and Rogers transformed the genre appearing in ten musical productions together, choreographed by Astaire and longtime collaborator Hermes Pan.
In this scene, the dancing is swift, elegant, has impeccable timing and the leaps over the rail are positively breathtaking.
Happy Christmas.
