Stop Your Sobbing was Pretenders’ first single released in 1979. It was written by Ray Davies and released by The Kinks in October 1964 as a follow up to their smash hit No.1 UK single, You Really Got Me. It was produced by Nick Lowe and reached No.34 in the British charts.
This delightful video of The Pretenders in 1979 perfectly captures the era. The recording of this song ultimately led to Chrissie Hynde and Ray Davies having a relationship resulting in the birth of their daughter Natalie.
The tragic death of James Honeyman-Scott in 1982 was a terrible loss – Honeyman-Scott was one of the great unsung guitarists of the last 50 years.
Over the years Chrissie Hynde has been recognised as one of the most entrancing R’n’R voices – unique, simultaneously delicate and packed full with attitude and oh my that distinctive and seductive vibrato.
Stay tuned for more Pretenders in the coming days.
