5/1/15 – Dionne Warwick – Do You Know The Way To San Jose? – 1968

Song Of The Day

bacharach-david-warwick-rContinuing the theme of  “So you think you can sing…” one might also ask, so you think you can write songs, melodies, lyrics and arrangements?

In keeping with these questions, here’s one of the greatest ever musical partnerships – Dionne Warwick with Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

The hits just kept on coming for them – Anyone Who Had A Heart, Alfie, Trains And Boats And Planes, I Say A Little Prayer, Do You Know The Way To San Jose? Walk On By, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again –  and many, many more. (Yesterday’s post, The Look Of Love sung by Dusty Springfield was also a Bacharach/David song).

Mind Blowing Fact: Burt Bacharach has written 72 Top 40 US Hits.

Mind Blowing Fact No.2: In 1975 Warwick sued Bacharach and David for $5.5 million dollars when they pulled out of making an album with her due to other commitments. The legend is that she sued them because they stopped writing her hits. They settled out of court.

Burt Bacharach is now 86 years old. Hal David died in 2012 aged 91.

Dionne Warwick is 74.

I haven’t been able to find a video of this song from the sixties, but that’s probably a blessing as this is the original magical version.
