The Saints 1978

Recorded in May 1977 and released in February 1978 as the second single from their second album Eternally Yours, Know Your Product straddled genres with its Stax and Sam & Dave influenced brass section sitting most comfortably with Punk’s raw power.

At this point the line up had already changed since their 1977 debut album, (I’m) Stranded. Original bass player Kym Bradshaw had gone replaced by Algy Ward (later of The Damned). Singer, Chris Bailey has remained in the band through the years, guitarist, Ed Kuepper and drummer Ivor Hay left after the third album, Prehistoric Sounds (1978) before leaving the legacy to Bailey.

The Saints’ experiment with brass was challenging and unexpected as they eschewed their Punk innovator reputation by becoming more complex and consequently climbing to greater musical heights. The Saints boast the impressive accolade of being one of the first true Punk bands.
