Produced by Robin Guthrie and featuring Elizabeth Fraser on a memorable chorus, Primitive Painters appeared on Felt’s fourth album, Ignite the Seven Cannons released on Cherry Red records in 1985. Felt were led by the enigmatic Lawrence and over a ten year period released ten albums and ten singles before splitting up.
This single also features the melodic guitar of Maurice Deebank with Marco Thomas on bass, Gary Ainge on drums and Martin Duffy on keyboards.(He went on to join Primal Scream). Lawrence formed Denim and then Go Kart Mozart although he keeps a low profile and exists under the radar despite his rather large output.
The original video has awful sound quality so here’s the video with the record o/dubbed later, not a perfect solution but at least you can hear the song properly.
Note: If you type Elizabeth Fraser in the archive search box you will find a selection of her collaborations through the years.
