It’s my birthday today and I spent the afternoon in Strand Books here in New York City buying some wonderful editions of titles by my favourite authors, Cocteau in French (livre de poche and Folio editions) Gerard De Nerval, a Robert Aickman first edition of Dark Entries from 1964, Ian McEwan’s latest book (I’ve read 10 of his books already) and some recommendations from Signe – John Crowley and Shirley Jackson. On the way I bought a Dusty Springfield album I didn’t have – Ooooooweeeee from 1965, a US compilation of tracks from English albums, singles and EP’s. Ian And Sylvia, Billy J. Kramer with four Lennon and McCartney songs.
But, the track I am posting today is the mysterious Ray LaMontagne that woke up one day and decided that Pink Floyd was the new direction, following up his last album Supernova with this track from his latest album Ouroboros. An odd sudden change of style but beautiful anyway.
What is Ouroborous? Well it’s an ancient symbol of a dragon eating its own tail originating in Egypt and India and symbolizing cyclicality and introspection.
