Travelling to Germany from Ireland means a change of direction for In Deep posts and having been in Cologne, Dortmund and Dusseldorf in the last three days, it seemed appropriate to investigate some of the bands from the area of western Germany.

Last night was Dusseldorf, so after being in their home town, I simply had to post a video by the darlings of electronic music, Kraftwerk.  (Kraftwerk means power station in German).

The English version of this song made the UK charts No.20. and No.26 in Ireland although it didn’t chart in Germany. In the US the song made it to No.42 on the Billboard Dance charts confounding the Disco dancers by somehow turning a stiff, cold, electronic beat into a bouncing irresistible Dance track. An intellectual novelty song.

The German and the English version of the song appear below in videos with lifelike dummies and humans exchanging places, making you wonder which is which? It’s hard to imagine that pre-image makeover earlier in the decade, the band had a real drummer with long hair. On the first album Andreas Hohmann played drums on Ruckzuck  and Stratovarius and Klaus Dinger on Vom Himmel Hoch. Dinger went onto to form Neu and later La Dusseldorf – but that’s another story.
