Music today has been the half-speed mastered 50th Anniversary release of David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane (1973). It was the last album released with The Spiders, although Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder also played on Pin Ups, also released in 1973, Woody Woodmansey was replaced by Aynsley Dunbar who stayed to play on Diamond Dogs (1974). The Aladdin Sane lineup also included piano virtuoso Mike Garson, allegedly suggested to Bowie by the amazing Annette Peacock who’d turned Bowie down when he asked her to play with him. Check out her great debut album, I’m the One (1972). Lady Grinning Soul (and Brown Sugar) was written for soul singer and one-time Ikette, Claudia Lennear. You can see her interviewed in the doco 20 Feet from Stardom.
