16/9/23 – MARTY’S DAILY ALBUM PICKS

Music today has been Grateful DeadLive/Dead (1969), live at The Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. I’m happy to say that the ex-band played there once, I had that experience, but it wasn’t all roses. I think we had a pretty small crowd (although Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong was there) and the promoter was disappointed, I think we even had him pay us less than our fee (not that I remember the numbers). I also remember at soundcheck, they were freaking out about keeping the back doors closed because of the neighbour complaints…in the afternoon. Who moves close to The Fillmore in San Francisco and complains about the afternoon soundchecks? The legacy of the venue, treading the boards where Janis, Jerry, and Jimi stood should overshadow the complaints, who moves close to a sports stadium and complains about regular sports events, no one, sport always gets away with it whilst causing much more disturbance, all those people screaming and shouting.
