My worst nightmare, a lazy Sunday, I’d rather paint the Golden Gate Bridge with a toothbrush. I was up to watch the Liverpool/Man U draw after a late night, went back to sleep, woke up, and was going to the studio mid-afternoon, but they didn’t get started with the drum setup till really late, so I wasn’t needed. No transport, no shops, Sunday vibe, agggghhhhhh. I didn’t want to resort to my damn computer for entertainment. I need solids, books, records, ancient shops, people in the streets, this empty neighbourhood, often only populated by the odd runner or dog-walker, sucks the life out of you when trapped inside it. It’s always terrible, it’s worse on a Sunday.
A sesh at seven with John in Brooklyn took an eternity to arrive, but finally it did, limping through the slow Sunday sludge. A relief to see him in Brooklyn, another place on the planet, it’s good to know there is somewhere else. I was able to help him out with a song, a relief to be helpful. Sarah dropped off leftovers and came back soon after to take us to the studio. There they were recording guitars. I stayed for 30 minutes and Sarah drove us back. It was a quite hopeless day.
What to do on a hopeless day, watch a hopeless film that presses all the buttons that the analysts have uncovered about what a film needs to do to keep you engaged with no budget. So Time Trap was on Netflix, seemed dumb enough to be good enough and I went along with all the button pushing and was happy for all the characters at the end…but what about the cavemen and the conquistadors?
I hope to answer pending emails on Monday, not on Sunday, it’s suffocating, unable to breathe, never mind write, think, respond, create – the blood runs out of you, leaves a withered shell battling for life, broken stuttered movements, desperate, leaking, a trail of dust. Weekdays, busy, inspiring, hustle and bustle, action, movement. Bring it on.

Music today has been Luluc and their latest album, Diamonds (2023). They seem to be Australian, but they seem to live in Brooklyn, they seem to be really good, they seem to have made five albums, they seem to be popular with somebody, but I don’t know who.
