TO WHERE I AM NOW

So today I woke to see a note from Sarah, “internet down”, and now at 10.30 PM, it’s still down. So I was unable to do anything with E-mail or WhatsApp or any kind of communication device, Olivia is in Houston at the Itzhak Perlman concert and she has the US phone, so I was computer, phone, internet-gagged. But Sarah had recorded the Liverpool – Burnley game (3-1), so I watched that and three episodes of Law and Order, as you do in these circumstances.

Sarah was back at 6ish and we were soon sitting down to leftovers. I’m quite happy to eat the same meal every night, especially if it’s Asian food (I was about to say ancient food, which I suppose is exactly what leftovers are). We had some listening to do, so we sat down with our ears and a pen and paper and tried to work out some song orders and listened to mixes and tried to make sense out of that often difficult but extremely important stage in a project – the order of the songs. We were also doing it with some songs missing, we would have had versions of songs yet to be mixed – but they were in Dropbox and not available with no internet. It’s frustrating when the day you find the time to listen is the day the internet is down and you can’t listen to everything.

Earlier in the day, I was looking out of the window and noticed a dead bird on the roof, it probably flew into the glass. It reminded me of when I was playing cricket as a kid and my mate bowled a tennis ball at me and I hit it high into the air and it took a bird straight out of the sky, an unlucky shot. We found the bird on the other side of his garden fence, panting before it died.

Apparently, it rained today, but I didn’t notice as I didn’t go out. I don’t drive and don’t have a car anyway and I’m not sure where I would go on foot, although there is a lake nearby. I would like to walk past all the beautiful houses in this area, take pics, admire the architecture and stare at them from the road, but I’m in America and that would probably get me arrested or at least shot.

Music today has been William ShatnerThe Transformed Man (1968). A must for any sixties record collection and Beatle fan – although if you still haven’t heard him do Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, you probably shouldn’t. Who thought that Kirk would outlive Scotty, Bones, Spock, Uhura, Yeoman Rand and Nurse Chapel? I always felt sorry for the extras in the red shirts in the away teams because they were always going to their deaths. Shatner by the way is now 92 years old.
