Olivia came back today, so I hoovered the windows. I looked around and it seemed like I had so much to do to get the place straight, but then I thought that the next few weeks is going to be stuff everywhere as we attempt to populate the space with thousands of records, books, lava lamps, VHS videos, cassettes, pterodactyls, ambulances, catfish, bricklayers, dog collars, abalone shells and guitars. I still hoovered the windows, it seemed like a place needs to be tidy before you mess it up. I always had the unfashionable thought that it was easier to write songs when there were no dirty dishes. I’m not sure how being surrounded with mess makes you a better artist? Is it about true focus? Having said that, I’d like to see one of those celebrity houses shows where the celebrity’s house is a total mess, they’re always so tidy. Who’d be neater, Lemmy or Celine Dion? You might be surprised.
Olivia wasn’t back till midnight, so I had all day to rebuild the kitchen and take the motorbike parts out of the bathroom. I keep on leaving the carburettor in the sink and the handlebars on the sofa. If I ate pizza, I would have had to throw away last week’s boxes. I took the dishcloth out of the toaster and washed the soya sauce off the front room mirror, glued the leaves back onto the plants and fed the imaginary rabbit. It took me all day, I missed half of the FA Cup, but I couldn’t see the screen very well anyway because of the treacle.
I heated up leftovers for dinner and struggled through the soggy vegetables and the overcooked patties. I added too much salt and instead of washing the plate, I figured it was easier to just throw it away. After I’d scrubbed the tyre marks off the fridge and kitchen wall I headed back into the front room to see if I could find the creme caramel that I lost on Tuesday.

Music today has been Billy Tibbals – Stay Teenage EP (2023), where he has his time machine firmly planted in 1973 and glam rock. The songs, the sounds, the melodies, the accent, the words, the look. If you like that period of music, you’ll love this. Read the interview by clicking on his name and check out the new single Burn Out (2024), complete with glammy video. He’s an English guy who moved to LA in his teens, the two chemicals of two cities and their historical scenes mixed to make this reincarnation.
