Today, I woke up late after a super late night and discovered sunlight. I thought, how lovely after returning rain the day before but then I realised I didn’t feel good. I wondered if it is better to feel unwell on a horrible day or nice day, on a horrible day you get all the misery over at once, freeing you up to feel good on a nice day. On the other hand, ‘spreading the misery’ might be easier to deal with. Haha. So I sat around and tried to rest my way to a comeback, in the end with tea, a ginger pill, and a small lunch, I was back – as the daylight waned.
I got the hoover out, I’d recently figured out that it was blocked up and not working very well and so I cleaned it out – today it almost sucked the cars off the street. Unpacking boxes, building shelves, it was getting pretty grimy in The Archive, so I distracted myself from feeling a little dodgy, and cleaned. Also at 6 PM Martin and Karen were coming over, and visitors are always a good excuse to clean. I also took the brush to the front steps – and there they were.
Martin works in a record store in Glasgow called Love Music so we headed into the labyrinth, Karen and Olivia started talking and the conversations headed towards the universe and music, or was it music and the universe? Time flew by and I showed Martin the Butcher album (1966), the Tamam Shud – Goolutionites and the Real People (1970) and the Spanish Sticky Fingers (1971). Note from Discogs:
The regular ‘Zipper’ cover was banned in Spain, thus this cover was used instead. “Let It Rock” is listed on the label, but “Sister Morphine” is on the record. The song titles appear on labels in English with Spanish translation.
There’s a lot to see in The Archive and a lot to listen to, a couple of hours isn’t really going to do it and as we wonder how to monetise it without selling any of the core collection, one wonders what it’s worth to spend days in here and who could even do that? It’s more than an archive, it’s also the greatest sampling library, but can people who sample records and search for samples do it without hurting the records? Hm, you need to be nice to the records if you come in here.
Man City won, it’s almost certain they will win the league for an unprecedented four times in a row, unless you are Paris Saint Germain or Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, but this will be the first time in England.
Music today has been Still Corners – Dream Talk (2024). Rui played me the first track in the shop, and I bought it immediately. I’ve never heard of them but have since discovered that there are five more albums – how did I miss them?
