TO WHERE I AM NOW

I just kept on opening boxes today and ended up with the floor alive with music. It will literally take me months to sort it all out, especially as I have to earn, eat and sleep. Also, there’s the 7-inch singles and the cassettes. At the moment the 7-inch singles are piled up on top of the 12-inch shelves, and I’m waiting to figure out a 7-inch size shelving system to sort them out. Then there’s the cassettes! How do you put 2000 cassettes on that size shelf and in alphabetical order? I need to start digging down.

In the record store the other day, a young’un came in and bought a Billie Eilish cassette. I asked about it, and they said that they have a 3-in-1 system and it’s just cheaper than buying the vinyl, way out of a teenager’s budget. But that’s the In Deep Music Archive’s issue too, except a teenager might want fewer artists, an archive wants lots of artists from the past and the present, new and second-hand records – especially if one album is glossy and the other matte.

Lots of screeching in the street tonight from humans and brakes, or more humans and gear changes, as the motorbikes approach the traffic light at the end of the road, changing down and revving all the time. I suppose it’s irresistible with that engine at the mercy of your wrist. But it’s the classic situation – the bigger the bike, the less they do it, it’s the wasp-caught-in-a-jar bikes that get revved the most.

We watched the Spielberg, Morgan Freeman narrated, Life On Our Planet series, Episode 1 over dinner tonight. Click on the title to see what it is. Amazing visuals but there’s been some criticism by some for ‘inaccuracies of prehistoric life’ which made me wonder because they surely can’t be completely certain of the things they are sure about. Haha. We should be content that we can surmise at this level and wonder.

Spurs/Arsenal today, I don’t have to support a team to watch it, I just like to see a good game and today again it was a drama with only one goal. It’s best to have one goal and lots of drama rather than lots of goals and no drama. Wolves 1, Newcastle 2, another worthy game with a dramatic result.

Music today has been The Psychedelic Fursdebut album (the UK version), taking me back to the only real time I’ve seen them – the original lineup at the Lyceum in London in 1979 before I went to Australia, it was a mere 45 years ago.
