Oh no, I have the record shelf fixing men coming tomorrow morning at noon and it’s now 5 AM. I suppose I could write this tomorrow, but then tomorrow wants a lot from me, so I’ll do what I can before collapsing in a heap. The shelf that needs to be secured had to be emptied and it was full with about 3000 records and they all had to be moved – somewhere – and kept in alphabetical order. So now there’s no floor space until the shelf is fixed and then I’ve got to put them all back – in order. Olivia will help of course, but it’s quite a job as she already had to move one big pile in the front room and find a place for all the magazines that are on top of the shelves. I tell you, this Archive stuff is a 24/7 occupation, those humans from 3024 better appreciate it!
Earlier, I watched one of the greatest tense football games of all time, Man City/Arsenal. I’ll leave it at that because you’ll either have gone through it or won’t be bothered with it. We always make the joke, “It’s not like it’s a matter of life and death, it’s much more important than that”. An apocryphal quote from Bill Shankly.
This from Wikipedia:
“Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that” is a famous quote attributed to Scottish football manager Bill Shankly. However, the quote is actually a misquote, and Shankly did not say it exactly as it is commonly remembered. Shankly said the quote half-jokingly during a television interview, expressing regret about how his family suffered because of his dedication to football.
We had Matias here from Argentina helping us work something out in the studio, Jed was in Minneapolis as our listening guinea pig, as was Matias’ dad in Argentina. We worked on it for hours, trying all different kinds of configurations, until we discovered that the simplest way was the only way that it was going to work. We didn’t get dinner till 2 AM, but still managed to watch Episode 4 of Spielberg’s Life On Our Planet.

Music today has been Band on the Run when we started moving things around at 3.30 AM and now as I type I’m listening to Ram (1971) on headphones. Credited to Paul and Linda, it’s a great homemade domestic collaboration. You got the feeling that they were doing it in between washing the pots (northern), which gives it a unique charm.
