TO WHERE I AM NOW

Rainy today but it’s nice, it freshens everything up and it isn’t cold. It makes being inside cosy and the lure of the outside is less of a distraction with so much to do in The Archive.

Plus now the first In Deep livestream fundraiser is done (it’s still available to watch), The Mission have been and I have mixes to listen to and projects to oversee which is easier with the sound of the rain outside. It’s also easier knowing that the leak from the space upstairs has just been fixed, so it’s no longer raining inside. (Thankfully it wasn’t over the records.) You have to be so vigilant to protect any kind of collection, water, fire, damp, mould, cat claws, jealous digital warrior robots.

Melissa and Chris stopped by to see The Archive. We had met them at a café and got talking about the universe. They are on holiday from Albuquerque (that’s in New Mexico in case you didn’t know). They brought flowers, and we figured out the answer to infinity, building on the moon, and how to spell Albuquerque. They have an early river cruise tomorrow, so they left at 8 PM and we had dinner over Arsenal/PSG, 2-0.

I awoke worried about my tooth and as I’ve been careful with food today I managed not to slice my tongue open. Olivia called the dentist and booked a time, but unfortunately, it’s 11 AM tomorrow morning, we tried for a later date but nothing was available in the afternoon until October 16th, by that time my tongue will be shredded. So, as I’m used to going to bed so late, I’ll try and go earlier and see if I sleep or just lie there.

The ladies of the night are huddled in their doorway in the rain, not really enough room for all of them, but they take it in turns to sit on the steps inside and stand in the entrance. The café deck didn’t get its tables and chairs today as the autumn took hold…but it’s Portugal, next week we might be sunbathing.

I looked around the studio room where we did the livestream last Saturday and contemplated the reality of changing the room around. It’s going to be lots of unplugging and putting what’s on this wall on the opposite wall so we have more width for desks, devices, and digital and analogue units. But we’ve talked about Olivia painting the floor, so we would have more than a week of chaos as we move things, paint things, dry the floor, and put things back in different places.

Music today has been Clifford T. WardHome Thoughts (1973), one of Olivia’s favourites. “The title of the album is taken from the poem ‘Home Thoughts from Abroad’ by Robert Browning and is the name of a song on the album. The single Gaye reached the Top 10 and the album the Top 40 in the early seventies. For the super nerds, Ward wrote Path Through The Forest (1968) by The Factory, and it is lauded as one of the great psychedelic singles of the sixties. For some reason, he used an alias, Pat Rollings. He died in 2001 aged 57 so we may never know why, although, “in 1967, Ward enrolled at Worcester teacher training college to study English and divinity, after which he taught at North Bromsgrove High School, teaching English and Drama”, maybe the kids didn’t need to know.
