The rain is back and there’s something comforting about puddles strafed by rain drops. I didn’t get out into the street as I was continuing to organise the week which has turned into a mixture of interviews, seshes, moon trips, undersea exploration, flying lessons, Swedish verbs and raffia. After that, a sesh with Rod in Vancouver learning a song and contemplating the musician’s lot when it comes to earning – namely the roads you can follow with songwriting and placement of songs but then there’s the competition and it seems that even if you write something relevant, they still have to find you in the raffia basket, then again if you’re not in there…
Yesterday I saw the postman, his name is Adam. Scott the Zookeeper was feeding The Archive with a very cool Sisters of Mercy double vinyl, A Slight Case of Overbombing. It never arrived, when he asked about it, they said they had tried to deliver it three times. There was no evidence of that, no notification in the mailbox. Adam, the postman, told me they are hopeless and they just don’t care, they don’t deliver things and it’s a disaster. Thankfully, the health service is the opposite.
Dinner over Scotland – Portugal and a well-deserved 0-0, for Scotland, they might have even won it but at least they stopped the Portugal powerhouse and didn’t lose another game. From there to the eternal boxes and at least a small part of the day dedicated to the job of the vinyl-chipping-away, I need interns, about 30 of them.
Next was an interview with Blueburst Craig, he’s doing these interviews with all of us who worked on the album and others, so we talked for a couple of hours about the record, the universe, being a helicopter pilot, desert submarines, undergrowth, chocolate, wires, Tombola, additives, ESP, death knells, Lancaster bombers, envelopes, and dark green wallpaper. I’ll let you know when you can watch it.
Music today has been Kevin Ayers – Whatevershebringswesing (1972). I met him backstage in the bar upstairs at a Go-Betweens gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire, a wonderful eccentric with a whole collection of wonderfully eccentric albums, all of which I have on vinyl, if they came out on vinyl. I read there is a box set coming out this week – All This Crazy Gift Of Time (2024).
